The company was formed in 1930 by Severt W. Thurston and Frank Dupar. Today, the company is headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut. Westin has been a trailblazer in the hotel industry. The company claims to have been the first hotel chain to accept credit cards, the first to provide voice mail and the first to offer 24 hour room service. Westin also sells amenities found in it hotels to the public under the brand name of Heavenly. Nordstrom began carrying Westin's Heavenly beds in over 60 stores in 2005. It was the first time that a hotel company obtained a foothold in the national retail store market. The company has expanded its international presence in recent years. In the past 9 years, the company has has added 72 hotels and increased its presence from 24 countries to 37.
